What's my skin type?

Discovering the best products to enhance your skin starts with understanding your own skin type. Skin types can be broken into four main categories - oily, dry, sensitive or combination - but these should not be mistaken for temporary conditions like skin reactivity, dehydration, or congestion, which can impact all types of skin. Your skin type will depend on a number of factors such as genetics, hormones, lifestyle, diet, location and more. Knowing your skin type enables you to care for it, giving it what it needs. So letā€™s break down, the basic types of skin categories and which Skin Joy products will suit each best.

Oily Skin

The oily skin type typically experiences an overflow in sebaceous activity (oil flow) with larger pores, usually around the nose and chin area, and is prone to blackheads and breakouts. Redness can also be present in this skin type due to frequent outbreaks.

Implementing a daily double cleanse and introducing exfoliators into your skincare routine is beneficial for oily skin types. I recommend the Instant Skin Joy Exfoliating Mask and the Skin Joy Lactic Acid Gel Cleanser or the Skin Joy #1 Gentle Face Wash for younger skin. Donā€™t forget to moisturise with the Skin Joy #2 Light Moisturiser, ideal for the oily-prone, problematic skin type.

Dry Skin

The dry skin type has less natural oil flow (sebum) and fewer lipids so it struggles to lock and hold moisture into the skin. If your skin has flakiness, feels tight, or lacks luster, you're likely to have a dry skin type.

For dry skin types, I recommend the Instant Skin Joy Replenishing Mask and the Tint Free SPF 50+ Moisturiser to add moisture and hydration back to the skin as well as our Night Repair Oil Serum.

Combination Skin

The combination skin type is reflective of its name, a mixture of both dry and oily skin types. You may find you have an oily T-Zone, (forehead/nose chin) but dry cheeks and tightness around those areas. Combination, in my opinion, is one of the hardest skin types to treat, as it's important to get the right mix of products to get the balance right.

For combination skin types, I recommend the Skin Joy Ultimate Youth Bundle for younger skins paired with our Super Hydrating Serum and our Lactic Acid Gel Cleanser and Skin Joy Serums for mature skin.

Sensitive Skin

If you're a sensitive skin type, you typically burn easily in the sun, are prone to redness and you're easily irritated by fragrances. The skin's barrier is considered delicate and you may find it hard to find the right products that agree with your skin. It can often take time to find the perfect formula for those with sensitive skin.

Skin Joy products suitable for the sensitive skin type are the Skin Joy #1 Gentle Face Wash and the Tint Free SPF 50+ Moisturiser and Super Hydrating Serum.

Normal Skin

The normal skin type is typically well-balanced skin. Enough oil flow to aid a healthy glow and hold subtleness, doesnā€™t lack too much moisture that it could cause tightness and flakiness, and has a relatively strong barrier that it can use most products. The lucky ones I hear you say. However, normal skin types aren't immune to the effects of free radical damage and ageingā€¦...prevention is better than cure, so keeping that perfect balance with the right products is essential for longevity.

For the normal skin type, I recommend the either one of our cleansers Instant Skin Joy Replenishing Mask to reduce signs of ageing, and the Skin Joy Super Serum range to enhance skin texture, further reduce signs of ageing and promote healthy skin.

Discovering the perfect products for your unique skin is crucial for maintaining its health and radiance and to protect it and prevent premature ageing . It's worth noting that your skin can have a combination of skin types and change over time. While it may take some time to discover the right products for your skin, it's absolutely essential for maintaining a healthy complexion and boosting your self-confidence.
